I'm preparing myself for tonight.I recently graduated on physics and I'm now studying to get a master degree in astrophysics. This night will be the third night of the year I'll observe, using the 4 meter SOAR telescope. I can't describe how awesome it feels to control such an equipment through the internet sitting in front of my laptop, and getting the best data possible to do even cooler science.
If someone do have any curiosity about how is to work with astronomy, please ask. I love to talk about science!

If I only could play stringed instruments... I can only "play" wind music.

Most of the time, yes, it is damn great. However, when you spend almost a month debugging a 300 line program you wrote, you sometimes rethink your choices...
Just kidding, I love what I do!

I play the stereo. It's always in tune and the music is pre-arranged.

That's awesome!
The biggest telescope i ever operate was the Tiny little Celestron Omni XLT120. And that's the best 700 bucks i ever spent in my whole life.
Anyway, can you take some pics of the telescope and what did you see from there? :D

Well, I'll connect to the telescope through the internet, and I'll observe from my laboratory, in southern Brazil. The telescope is located at the chilean Andes, so I can't take pics...
But later I can post some pictures of the data. I tell you in advance, the raw data may not look much pretty, and since I work with stars, not galaxies, you probably won't save one of those images as a desktop background...
I study varaible stars, and the nice work comes after some work, when I turn hundreds of pictures in a nice lightcurve, which represents the starshine agains time. I can post some pictures of a past work too, which turned out nice, with a small article in the proceedings of a conference :-)

I'm with the almost 6 billion people who doesn't use facebook. Nor twitter, formspring, g+ or other social media. I just can't understand why put your life on the internet for everyone.
Sorry. But we can exchange information through e-mail. I do use a lot of it.
